Golden Boys on Austin Sound

Last year’s sophomore LP from the Golden Boys, Whiskey Flower, surged with boozy country-bent psych rock. The quintet has somewhat solidified it’s lineup since Matthew Hoopengardner moved from the hill country of Spring Ranch to set up shop in Austin in 2006, and have become a fixture along Red River, stomping out glorious garage anthems in their incomparable live shows. With the release of a new EP of B-sides, I Smell Gold and upcoming third album Goodbye Country due this summer, the Golden Boys are prepared to continue their relentless touring blazing guitars and lo-fi glory across the country. You have two opportunities to catch them this week: On Wednesday, April 30, the Golden Boys take over Club DeVille with Abby Birds and Pillow Queens, and on Friday, May 2, they return to their primary stomping ground at Beerland with the Old Haunts, Daniel Francis Doyle, Yellow Fever, and Dikes of Holland in tow.
