THE GOLDEN BOYS LAUNCH EAST COAST TOUR
The Golden Boys will be on tour in late May in support of their upcoming EP “I Smell Gold”
Hot off a raucous, whiskey-drenched west coast tour earlier this spring, the Austin, TX, psych-country demigods, the Golden Boys, launch into an east coast tour in support of their upcoming EP “I Smell Gold”, a precursor to their summer ’08 LP “Goodbye Country,” out on the Austin label Monofonus Press in May.
Joined by the Chapel Hill, N.C. raunchy-tonk of the Spider Bags, the Golden Boys kick-off their 18-date tour with a performance at Murphy’s in Memphis, TN on May 10, 2008 at 10 p.m.
The Golden Boys’, who formed in Spring Branch, TX, in 2003, “set the summer on fire,” according to the Austin Chronicle, with the release of their July ’07 LP “Whiskey Flower,” and garnered mentions on “Best of…” lists from the Omaha, Neb., City Weekly to the New York City-based Matador Records. Most recently, the Boys were featured on the cover of the Austin Chronicle with fellow Austinites the Strange Boys.
The Golden Boys are comprised of Matt Hoopengardner (formerly of the San Antonio garage-rock heroes the White Heat), lead vocals and guitar; Wes Coleman, lead vocals and guitar; Bryan Schmitz, vocals and bass; Nathan Arbeitman, organ and trumpet; and Pat Troxel, drums.
Press on “Whiskey Flower”
“[The Golden Boys] have a very cracked and shaky take on raunch-hootenany-ism recalling members of the In the Red stables, as well of Memphis’ more lop-sided degenerates.”
— Thurston Moore & Byron Coley, Bull Tongue/Arthur Magazine
“Some of their music is loud and bluesy, some of it’s countrified, and the psychedelic influence sometimes comes out full force. It’s raucous rock ‘n’ roll through and through, with all the stomping and yawping that comes with it.”
— The Denton Record Chronicle
“The band’s “Whiskey Flower” album is one of this year’s best Austin joints.”
— Joe Gross, Austin American-Statesman
