Thor Harris on How to Tour in a Band or Whatever
Nov 08 10
1.

2. Dont Complain. Bitching, moaning, whining is tour cancer.
3. If something is wrong fix it or shut the fuck up you fucking dick. Goddamn.
4. If you fart, claim it.
5. Dont Lose shit. Everybody loses shit. Dont fucking do it. Asshole.
6. Dont fuck anyone in the band. There are tons of people to fuck who are not in this band. Dumbass.
7. If you feel like shit all the time, drink less beer at the gig. You will play better & feel better. What are you a child? Some have the endurance for self abuse. Most dont.
8. Remember the soundmans name. He will do a better job.
9. Eat oranges. Cures constipation & prevents colds.
10. Masturbate. Duh… Where & when? Be creative. You’re an artist, right?
11. If YOU can’t carry your suitcase 3 blocks, its too goddamn big.
12. Respect public space in the van. Dont clutter, you Fuck.
13. If you borrow something, return it. Not Fucked Up.
14. Do not let the promoter dick you or talk you out of the guarantee. If there were not enough people there, its their fault.
15. Driver picks the music.
16. One navigator only (usually sitting shotgun). Everyone else shut the fuck up.
17. Soundcheck is for checking sounds. Shut the fuck up while everyone else is checking.
18. Dont wander off. Let someone know where you are.
19. Clean up after yourself. What are you& a goddamn toddler?
20. Touring makes everyone bi-polar. Ride the waves as best you can and remember, moods pass. So dont make any snap decisions or declarations when you are drunk or insane.
21. Fast food is Poison.
22. The guestlist is for friends, family & people you might want to fuck. Everyone else can pay. They have day jobs.
23. Dont evaluate your whole life while you’re sitting in a janitor closet waiting to go on. You think you’re above having shitty days at work? Shut up & do your goddamn job.
Thor published a book and album with Monofonus. Check it out below and order it here.
The Tiger’s Last Toothball
Nov 01 10
Monofonus celebrates the long-awaited release of Andy Rihn’s first book, The Tiger’s Last Tooth, with two-day installation/party The Tiger’s Last Toothball. At 8pm on November 10 and 13, Rihn will be transforming the Monofonus compound (610 Vermont Rd) into a multilevel, multimedia environment, and we’ll be throwing a party there. Admission is either $5 or a hammer and a promise (seriously) and includes a free book, CD, tattoos, breadsnakes, and libations from Ambhar Tequila.
Oh, and guess what? You can read Andy’s book RIGHT NOW!

Everything We’ve Worked on Is Free!!!!!
Sep 29 10
We’ve put practically every project that Monofonus Press has produced up here on this site for you to listen to, read, and watch for free. So! If you’ve ever been curious about what it is exactly that we do here, explore the Works bar above and find out. Click on the image of a book and expand it to full size. Read the whole thing if you want, or buy it if you would rather hold something beautiful in your hands. Listen to the whole albums. Watch the videos (we’re still working on posting all of them up, but there are plenty so far). It’s all here. Use our new share button and spread the word if you like something that you see!
If you’re looking for a place to start, take a look at some of our most recent releases: Andy Rihn’s The Tiger’s Last Tooth, Jules Buck Jones’ Everglades, and Ralph White’s The Mongrel’s Hoard.

The Austin Chronicle included Teleportal Readings in a roundup of Austin reading series this week. Here’s the video mentioned in the article, in which we turned Dean Young into a cartoon (more Teleportal videos here). One correction: our next show is in September, not October. Stay tuned for details!

Jules Buck Jones: Everglades

Jules Buck Jones: Everglades
Sunday, July 11, 6-10pm
The Monofonus Compound
610 Vermont Road
Austin, Texas
Monofonus‘ midsummer madness continues this weekend with Everglades, a one-night art show – complete with live Everglades reptiles – celebrating the publication of artist Jules Buck Jones‘ book of the same name.
Conceived of as a continuous drawing spanning 98 pages, Jules’ mind-blowing mixed-media book Everglades chronicles his residency in Everglades National Park in the summer of 2009. During this residency, Jules spent the park’s off-season living alone in a bunker where scorpions and frogs covered the walls and hawks circled the front yard. He passed his days canoeing among alligators, crocodiles, sharks, and 15-foot Burmese pythons and his nights searching for the rare Florida Panther. The work this wildlife inspired combines the illustrative precision of field guides with the expressive nuance of nonrepresentational art.
Both large-scale works from the book and newer work will be on display at the Monofonus compound for one night only on Sunday, July 11, from 6pm to 10pm. We’ll have free beer and slithering special guests, and the book will be available for pick-up by Kickstarter supporters and purchase by those who missed the chance to pre-order.
